First-Time Buyer's Guide: Choosing a Sex Doll in the Right Order

Short answer: decide in this order: where it will live → how much you can lift → how much care you'll do → budget → seller → appearance. In the owner accounts we reviewed, buyers often said they wished they had decided in roughly that order. A doll that is too heavy, has nowhere to be stored, or needs more care than you'll give ends up unused, however good it looked in the photos.

The five decisions, in order

Appearance comes last on purpose. Once the first five are settled, appearance is a choice among dolls that will actually work for you.

1. Format: torso, compact or full-size

The table under this guide shows recorded weights by format in our catalog: the lightest, the middle and the heaviest of each.

  • Torso: the lightest, cheapest and easiest to store and clean. One ultra-light torso is listed by its maker at 11.95 kg without its head and 13.95 kg with it.
  • Compact full body (about 150–160 cm): full presence in a shorter length, but not much lighter. In our records, compact models start at about 29 kg, close to the lightest full-size model (28 kg).
  • Full-size (about 160–175 cm): the most presence and posing, and mostly 30–40 kg.

Neither format is a "starter version" of another; they suit different homes. "Start smaller" is a legitimate answer. So is "not yet", if you have no private storage or the household situation is unresolved.

2. Weight: test it before you order

The NIOSH lifting reference of 23 kg (about 51 lb) is the load considered safe for most people under ideal conditions (CCOHS). Lifting a doll is far from ideal: there are no handles, you lift from a bed, and you twist. Before you order:

  • Load a bag to your shortlisted model's with-head weight and lift it from bed height three times.
  • Measure the storage space, the doorways and the route from the front door.
  • Plan delivery day for the boxed weight, about 10 kg more than the doll in one owner's account.

Listed weights often exclude the head. Our model pages flag every case where the basis needs context.

3. Material: match it to your care tolerance

Silicone has a non-porous surface, tolerates heat better and needs less routine care. TPE is softer and cheaper, but needs drying and powdering after each use and must be kept away from heat and dark fabrics. Hybrids give you a silicone face with TPE care for the body. Get the material of the head and the body confirmed in writing. Full comparison: Silicone vs TPE.

4. Budget: the price is not the cost

The full-body prices we've seen at named sellers are listed in Total cost of ownership, with the seller and date for each. Broader bands in seller and guide sources are estimates, not verified pricing:

  • Torsos and minis: about $100–$500.
  • Entry real-brand full-size: about $1,800–$2,500.
  • The commonly cited "sweet spot": about $2,500–$4,000.

Start cheap or invest? A full-size "premium" doll priced far below what several retailers charge for the same model matches the documented counterfeit pattern. Starting cheap only teaches you something if the cheap product is genuine. In the owner accounts we reviewed, second-time buyers tended to move toward lighter, better-built, silicone-leaning dolls. Buying that correction first is cheaper than buying twice.

5. Seller: verify, and keep the evidence

Before paying:

  • Confirm the business. Get a named business behind the store.
  • Get the terms in writing. That means the cancellation window, the damage-report deadline, and warranty scope.
  • Ask about delivery. Confirm whether the price is delivered duty paid, and what the billing descriptor will say (Discreet delivery).
  • Pay by credit card. In the US you can dispute a charge in writing within 60 days of it appearing on your statement (CFPB).

Most makers don't publish a manufacturer warranty, so the seller's written policy is what protects you: Sex doll warranties.

Pre-order checklist

  • Storage measured, and the storage solution ready before arrival
  • Lift test done at the with-head weight
  • Material chosen for your care tolerance, and confirmed in writing for head and body
  • Configured price itemized; DDP status known
  • Seller verified; cancellation window and damage-report deadline noted in hours
  • Billing descriptor and sender name confirmed
  • Unboxing plan: photograph the box, then inspect before any use. Using the doll can void a damage claim. See How to inspect a delivered product

What we don't know

No independent hands-on ranking of "best first dolls" exists in the evidence we gathered, and Doll Verdict has not tested any product. Satisfaction rates and real-world lifespans by format are unknown. Treat any site that claims otherwise with caution.

Before you shortlist, skim the ten most common buying mistakes. Then set your weight and height limits in the Doll Finder, or browse the Catalog.
